Job Description Closing Date:December 1, 2024 This recruitment will establish an eligible list to fill current and future vacancies. About the Montgomery County Board of Elections (BOE) conducts elections as required by law and conducts all Federal, State, and County, elections as well as assist in municipal elections within Montgomery County. In the anticipation of the 2024 Presidential Election, the Board of Elections is seeking to fill about 50 to 60 Election Aide II positions (temporary intermittent position).
What You’ll Be DoingPerform a variety of application processing, mail in ballot receiving and organization, customer service, data processing, recruitment, training and IT support functions of the election. Job assignments and terms of employment may range from several weeks to several months.
Below are the Election Aide II position assignments and the months the department will begin hiring; note that all assignments will also include duties as assigned.
Voter Registration – September 2023 Voter Registration staff processes and proofs electronic and paper applications, sorts incoming mail, scans, and processes documents to and from other Local Boards of Elections, verify petition signatures, research, and process provisional ballots.VR staff track and process mail, file processed documents and answer the telephones.
Recruitment and Support – September 2023 Recruitment staff assist placing volunteers to serve as poll workers, canvass workers, drop box runners, nursing home program workers, and a variety of other volunteer positions assigned during the election cycle, conduct post-election activities, and participate in community outreach events. Support staff answers main telephone lines, process applications, ensure voter registration records are current, provide general program information, process mail, manage the interested volunteer postcard mailings, assist in community outreach events, and supports Recruiters with various tasks.
Training – January 2024 Trainers are responsible for conducting training classes for poll workers who work on Election Day and Early Voting procedures in a group setting; answering questions about Election Day and Early Voting procedures; setting up training classroom with training equipment and materials; and managing audience engagement to keep class time on schedule.
Voter Services - January 2024 Vote by Mail staff provides in-person, telephone, and e-mail customer services. Create spreadsheets and input data, receives, sorts, inventory and organizes mail-in envelope ballots. Digitize documents, scan, attach perform data entry, proof and file. Inventory and distribute ballots, physically prepare for canvass, and prepare ballots for canvassing.
IT Warehouse Support and Clerical – February/March 2024 Information Technology (IT) warehouse staff maintains and ensure the operation of critical election equipment.This includes programming, testing and staging the deployment of election equipment to voting sites.In addition, the IT staff provides support for all election equipment and provide call center support Early Voting and on Election Day in person or in a help desk environment.IT clerical staff enters data uses excel database during the preparation of the voting equipment, verifies report data, creates necessary paperwork and works as a help desk agent during Early Voting and Election Day.
Operations Warehouse – January 2024 Responsible for preparation (sorting, counting, packing) of ballots/polling place supplies for 257 precincts + 14 early voting centers for both Primary and General elections. Will assist with the inventory and redistribution of supplies between elections, and final audit/inventory of post-election supplies. Must be able to repeatedly lift 50lbs; combination of walking/sitting and lifting required.
Drop-Box Lead - Responsible for assisting with oversight of safely and securely transporting ballot boxes to and from mail ballot drop-box locations (approximately 55 ballot drop boxes) throughout the county.Includes assisting with management of mileage, team schedules, hand-over of drop box related items using State mandated protocols.Must have valid drivers license and own vehicle.
Floater Duties may also include but are not limited to the following:
- Process mail in ballots;
- Validate, process and/or check voter registration forms;
- Perform data capturing and voter look-up;
- Assist with polling place setup and coordination;
- Perform office work and various clerical duties;
- Receive and answerer telephone calls;
- Operates a variety of automated office equipment, including computer and laptops;
- Helps load trucks with election materials for delivery;
- Performs related duties as assigned.
We Are Looking For Someone Who
- Will work flexible hours and time frames which may be short in duration,
- Has the ability to perform routine and repetitive tasks, which may include sitting for extended periods of time;
- Will work flexible hours including overtime, as well as evenings and weekends with short notice;
- Has the ability to maintain attention to detail in a fast paced, time sensitive and confidential environment; communicate and interact effectively with supervisors, peers and the public.
To ensure a positive workplace and to comply with Federal, State and County laws, the incumbent is responsible for completing mandatory trainings within the first three to six months or within the specified timeframe.

Montgomery County Ethics Law: Except as provided by law or regulation, the County's "Public Employees" (which does not include employees of the Sheriff's office) are subject to the County's ethics law including the requirements to obtain advanced approval of any outside employment and the prohibitions on certain outside employment. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Experience: None
Education: Completion of High School or High School Certification of completion recognized in the State of Maryland
Equivalency: None
Physical Ability : Ability to occasionally lift, push and/or pull materials and/or equipment weighing up to fifty pounds (50 lbs).
Special Qualifications : Incumbent in this position requires registration as a voter in the State of Maryland.
Preferred Criteria PREFERRED CRITERIA : All applicants will be reviewed by OHR for minimum qualifications.Those applicants who meet minimum qualifications will be rated “Qualified,” placed on the Eligible List, and may be considered for an interview.Employees meeting minimum qualifications who are same grade or higher will be placed on Eligible List as a “Transfer” candidate and may be considered for an interview.
