What’s new? A better question to ask is What’s not new?
The June 2024 release of ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 delivers an end-to-end redesign of the user experience. You’ll find a streamlined user interface, new icons, and new workflows; all wrapped in a fresh color palette. There are also more responsive tools, panes, and maps across all ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 components. This release will change how you look at ArcGIS for Microsoft 365.
ArcGIS for Microsoft 365 has updated account and license requirements. Depending on your user type, role, or privileges, different product functionality may be available. Some workflows may require higher privileges. Learn more in the Accounts topic in the online user guide.
The below sections detail the updates included in this release, per component.
ArcGIS for Excel
The following updates were made to ArcGIS for Excel:
- An updated user experience provides a new look and feel for map tools, panes, and icons, along with revised, related workflows.
- There is a new Create spatial filter analysis function that you can use to compare two layers that match specific input spatial criteria and generate a result dataset.
- TheFunction Buildertool has new functions and updates to the pane design. The functions are now listed under categories with better messages and errors guiding you to make the best use of any function for conducting data analysis.
- The selection tools usability has been updated within the Analysis functions. You can use these tools to identify, locate, and visually analyze a set of features or data on the map. Once you use a selection tool, you can use the minimized quick access tool bar to know which tool is being used or expand the tab to access another selection tool or clear selection.
- Thelayer Style toolshave been updated with new formatting options and interface. You can apply or change the default symbol typeapplied to the layer (also known as smart mapping).
Only those options that logically apply to the active layer and the selected data attributes will appear in theSymbol type drop-down menu. For example, if your layer only contains geographic point coordinates, only Location or Heat map styles are listed. However, if you have added categorical or numeric data attributes, you will see additional options.
ArcGIS for SharePoint
The following updates were made to ArcGIS for SharePoint:
- An updated user experience has a new look and feel for map tools, panes, and icons, along with revised, related workflows.
- A newlayer legendprovides a detailed view of all map layers and applied style characteristics.
- Theselection tools usability was updated within the Analysis functions. You can use these tools to identify, locate, and visually analyze a set of features or data on the map.
- Thelayer Style toolshave been updated with new formatting options and interfaces. Use the Symbology tab to select symbol type options based on your selected layer’s data. Use the Style options tab to modify available settings such as symbol styling, size or color classification settings, or clustering.
ArcGIS for Power BI
The following updates were made to ArcGIS for Power BI:
- The overall user experience has been updated with a new look and feel and more responsive and intuitive panes, tabs, and tools. These include the updated selection tools, layer style tools, and the new layer legend.
- The new Feature Information pane is used to visualize and interact with the feature-rich aspects of layers added from ArcGIS, like charts or infographics. You can select which elements or data attributes to include with your map data.
- ArcGIS for Power BI now supports Microsoft Power BI’s built-in tooltips. Drag and drop data fields to the Tooltips field well and adjust their properties on the Visualizations > Format pane. ArcGIS for Power BI also supports configurable Microsoft report tooltips that you can use to add ArcGIS content to your Power BI reports.
- Use the updated Location type settingsto improve your data’s spatial accuracy.
ArcGIS for Teams
The following updates were made to ArcGIS for Teams:
- A newsketch and annotate interactive feature allows teams to collaborate and annotate a shared map in real time on a Microsoft Teams call, channel, or chat. Hosts can save the annotated map layer to their ArcGIS organizational account. Microsoft Teams Share content and Sketch and annotate functions are designed for real-time collaboration. One participant at a time has the presenter role, but all participants can independently explore shared spatial data, synchronizing back to the presenter as needed.
- Use theSketchtoolin the map to explore and annotate it with text and shapes (points, lines, and polygons).
- Within the sketch and annotate interface, you will also see a preview of the updated user experience, with the new look and feel for map tools and icons.
- Use theArcGIS plugininMicrosoft TeamsCopilot(powered by artificial intelligence) to access maps and location data withinArcGIS for Teams. Copilot with ArcGIS uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to intelligently learn from your searches, providing better, more useful ArcGIS map results over time.
ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate
The following updates were made to ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate:
- New actions, includingUpdate attachmentandCreate point geometryhave been added.
- ArcGIS Connectors for Power Automate has added support for Survey123 Power Automate triggers and actions.
